Summer Sparkle 2010 comes to a close

We have had a grand summer at Gulmohar Days. Summer sparkle 2010 came to a close today with our last session of summer camp for kids this afternoon.

Poetry, writing, art, craft, science, music, stories: its been a a hectic summer. Our heartfelt Thank You to the parents who enrolled their child/children in our programmes. The kids have been an absolute delight. It has been a privilege to have interacted with so many of them.

Wishing them all a fantastic academic year ahead. May they all have wonderful teachers and friends in their new classes and may the year be filled with good cheer. We hope to continue seeing them in the months to come. Please do keep in touch with us.

All our Activity Clubs resume from the second week of June 2010. We are adding new books to our exisiting Library collection. This year, make your child a "Reader"!! :)

Creative Corner

Our Creative Corner craft workshop received a wonderful response this Summer. The kids as always amazed us with their fresh and new ideas. They took home lampshades, fabric paintings, handcrafted place mats, flowers, decorated thalis, tie and dye handkerchiefs and so much more in the one month they spent with us. Do enjoy the pictures! And we hope to see all of you at our regular Craft Club that meets every Saturday from the month of June2010.

The O'Keeffe Montage

Our 2 day art workshop "Discovering Georgia O'keeffe" was a great success. Thank you ladies for making yet another workshop at Gulmohar Days an absolute pleasure. Summer fun at our Mixed Bag camp!

The past 10 days have been a sheer delight! Our mixed bag summer camp for kids got off to a great start with kids ages 3 to 5 years coming together for a fun 2 hour session every morning. From block printing to painting, singing and yoga to magic ink and learning about the solar system....we attempted it all! To all parents who were part of this 10 day camp - our heartfelt Thank You! It was a joy having your child with us and we hope they enjoyed every bit of their time with us as well. Here are some of the pictures that capture all the excitement and action. PC-based “Animation” Workshop	For ages 8 yrs above	A 15 day workshop wherein kids will learn to work with Photshop and Flash to create their own little animations, and presentations.	Dates: 15th to 30th May. 2 batches: 10.00 am to 11.30 am / 12.00 pm to 1.30 pm	This workshop will be mentored by teachers from Firebox Animations. Each child will be provided with a PC to work on during the course.
“Experience Art”	Art workshop for kids ages 9 yrs and above	A week long session that gets kids learning about artists, attempting abstract art, working with different colour palettes and finding their own artistic expression.	Dates: May 17th to 22nd from 2.00 pm to 5.00 pm	This workshop will be mentored by faculty with extensive experience and background in art and teaching children.
Mixed Bag	Ages 3 to 6 years	A 10 day session for kids that combines music, craft, stories, games, yoga/exercise and science to give the little ones a great start to the vacations.	Dates: 17th to 27th May Time: 11.00 am to 1.00 pm	Please note: The Story Club and Phonics Club will reconvene in the month of June.
Creative Corner	Ages 7 yrs and above	A fun filled art and craft camp where kids can try their hand at fabric painting, embroidery, ceramic art, paper mache, sponge flowers, tile and glass painting, jewellery making and plenty more.	Right through April and May 2010	Kids can sign up for any 12 days and choose what they wish to make

As always our Library and Day care facilities will operate right through the summer vacations.

Summer Sparkle 2010: Summer Workshops and programmes for kids and adults

Hello everyone! This is going to be a fantastic summer and our calendar for the months of April and May looks very exciting.

Our Library will be open 10.00 am to 7.00 pm right through the vacations. From the ladybird and early-reader books to our entire range of Enid Blyton, Indian fiction, Asterix, Amar Chitra Katha and mystery and detective series; there really is no excuse not to read anymore! And of course all our library members have access to our games corner with scrabble, pictionary, chess, carom and monopoly vying for attention.

Our special Summer workshops on offer combine variety, quality, fun and learning at the hands at some of the finest teachers and mentors. Here’s what Summer Sparkle 2010 has in store for the month of April!

WORKSHOPS FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL 2010

Creative Corner	Ages 7 yrs and above	A fun filed art and craft camp where kids can try their hand at making lamp shades, fabric painting, embroidery, ceramic art, sponge flowers, jewellery making and plenty more.	Starts: 6th of April 2010 and is on till mid-May 2010. Time: 5.00 to 6.30 pm .	Kids can sign up for any 12 days and choose what they wish to make
Mixed Bag	Ages 3 to 6 years	A 10 day session for kids that combines music, craft, stories, games, yoga/exercise and science to give the little ones a great start to the vacations.	Dates: 12th to 23rd April Time: 11.00 am to 1.00 pm	Note: The Story Club and Phonics club will continue to meet at the designated days during April.
Discovering Georgia O'Keeffe	A two-day Art workshop for Adults	This workshop on will take participants through a hand’s on step-by-step process of understanding O’Keeffe’s style of painting while finding one’s own expression. Participants will paint on canvas and take home their work by end of Day 2.	Dates: April 24th and 25th (Saturday and Sunday) from 1.00 pm to 6.00 pm	This workshop will be mentored by noted by trained faculty from LS Raheja, Mumbai and MS University, Baroda.
Quiz Club	For ages 8 to 12 years	A week long workshop that gets the kids quizzing and looking up facts and figures. Mildly competitive workshop that will focus on building Gk and quiz skills.	Dates: 19th to 24th April. Time: 4.00 to 5.00 pm
The Joy of Haiku	Open to all ages: Adults from all professions and backgrounds and children above the age of 10 yrs.  A great opportunity for teachers and students to learn and hone the fine art of creative thinking and writing	The most compressed poetry in the world, haiku has more than a four hundred year old Japanese tradition behind it. A season’s poetry or call it nature poetry, it often looks deceptively simple. This haiku workshop would present in simple easy steps how best to write one and get published too, if you pursue it with full vigour and passion.   In short you’d come to experience The Joy of Haiku and what it is to share this joy with others!!	Dates: 3 day session from April, 20th to 22nd Time: 10.30 am to 12.30 pm	This workshop will be mentored by none other than Kala Ramesh who presently heads the World Haiku Club in India. Kala is the deputy editor-in-chief of The World Haiku Review; is a member of the editorial team of Modern English Tanka Press’s new anthology, Take Five: The Best Contemporary Tanka 2008/2009/2010, is on the panel of the literary e-journal Muse India, for the areas of haiku and short verse; and was the in-house editor for Katha, New Delhi for the book Seeking the Beloved: The Poetry of Shah Abdul Latif (2005). Since April 2009, she has acted as Katha’s Poetry Editor and, in this capacity, edited an e-book of haiku, senryu, haibun, tanka, and haiga encompassing the work of 35 Indian haiku poets--the first such book to come from an Indian publishing house!

Announcing a Summer workshop for kids ages 3 - 5.5 yrs. This 10 day workshop will combine music, craft, science, language, stories and games to give the kids a great fun filled start to the vacations. Please note the details below

Time: Every day 11.00 am to 1.00 pm
Max No. of participants: 15
Registrations will close once the first 15 kids enroll with us.

Coloured Hues

This weekend was a truly special one at the library. The art workshop saw a fantastic group of vibrant, intelligent women come together for an afternoon of fun and learning. Thank you to our mentor for a great workshop that allowed complete freedom with colours and form and gave such great output at the end of it all. Ladies, thank you all for being such a forthcoming and wonderful group willing to experiment and share ideas so willingly. We do hope each one of you immensely enjoyed the time you spent with us.

Happy Holi!

Hi everyone,

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Holi!

As Nature celebrates spring and marks the advent of summer, a special reminder to all my young friends who are part of Gulmohar Days: please be careful with colour and be judicious in the use of water.

The Library will remain closed on Moday on account of Holi celebrations. However, the Trinity Speech and Communication Classes will be conducted as per schedule in the evening.

Wishing you much merriment and joy as the bright colours and water wash away all that is impure and fill our hearts with love and laughter!
